Confirmation of the role of King-Father as Chair of the Supreme Border Council (2005-Apr-26)
Samngatki : In line with what KI published this morning (KI, 25 April 2005: “King-Father Norodom Sihanouk to chair Supreme Border Council”), King Norodom Sihamoni sent today a letter to Prime Minister Hun Sen – which was posted this afternoon on the royal Web site – saying that King-Father Norodom Sihanouk has accepted to chair the soon-to-be-created Supreme National Council on Border Affairs, as His Majesty the King’s Representative. King Norodom Sihamoni specifies that his Royal Father currently feels strong enough to “go and stay on the spot”, meaning in land and sea border areas, to make sure that the mutually accepted delineation of the border with Vietnam, Thailand and Laos corresponds with what is indicated on [internationally recognized as accurate] geographic maps used by the US Army between 1963 (one year after Cambodia recovered Preah Vihear temple from Thailand following a ruling of the International Court of Justice in The Hague) and 1969 (one year before Lon Nol’s coup).
