Chea Vichea’s wife enticed to give false information (2005-Apr-28)
K.I. : The widow of Chea Vichea – the union leader assassinated
in Phnom Penh in January 2004 – who now lives as political refugee in Finland
with her two young children, has been recently approached by emissaries
from the Phnom Penh government who asked her – in exchange for reward –
to accuse the Cambodian opposition of being behind the murder of her husband.
She met with the emissaries during a visit she paid to friends in Paris
last January. |

Minister refuses to answer questions from investigating judge
(2005-Apr-28)
K.I. : Earlier this month, Education Minister Kol
Pheng (Funcinpec) refused to meet with and answer questions
from the investigating judge who is in charge of dealing with the corruption
lawsuit that opposition leader Sam Rainsy has filed against Prince Norodom
Ranariddh related to the inflated cost for the construction of the National
Assembly’s new premises. Kol Pheng was summoned by the judge in his capacity
as former Secretary-General of the National Assembly at the time when the
controversial construction contract was signed in January 2003. Assembly’s
Finance Committee President Cheam Yeap
has been also summoned, but not yet Assembly President Norodom Ranariddh.
Both of them signed the contract in question involving an alleged $14
million bribe.

Broken glass float in swimming pool (2005-Apr-23)
A few
days of fun in Phnom Penh and then time to head south for the town of Kep.
This was a sort of former fun spot for the wealthy French as it is the
closest beach to Phnom Penh. There are a lot of villas there shut up by
Pol Pot. Here is one of them. (...) Here is another one where kids were
swimming in the old pool. It looked like an algae experiment, but they
were having the time of their lives! Wonder what the former owners would
have thought...
