1) No more Cambodian hawks (2005-May-10)

[Koh Santepheap]

N.P. : Your postings are as usual plenty of humour. The old hawk (Mig-15 returned by Israel) is already a sculpture for decoration (Calder's Stabile). The P-92 trainer is not even a mosquito (it trains but cannot bite). Sihanouk should tell Sihamoni to appoint Chakrapong to Air Marshall and have he clean up that poor sparrow.

M. Preuk : I think I know why all the Khmer "hangsa" disappeared. From my reliable source, I was told that they have been replaced by a new kind of bird known as "hang sen". Unlike the conventional "hang sa", this new kind of bird drops stinky bombs that are not very well appreciated by many people. A picture of the new "hang sen" bird is attached herein.

N.P. : That's right! We Cambodians have only these golden but stinky birds for the defence of Cambodia air space.

I was too hungry for power, says Sihanouk [ 01 Nov 1998 ]
The eternal teen king
AFP : The King's message before his 76th birthday today warns against giving too much power to one person.
PHNOM PENH -- In an early birthday message appeared aimed at politicians vying to lead Cambodia, King Norodom Sihanouk yesterday [01 Nov 1998] admitted that he might have been too power-hungry in the past and warned against giving one person too much power. "In the early stages of my life as a prince, I was over-confident. I knew all the answers and could judge better than our people what was good for them," he revealed in the message published by the Cambodia Daily for his 76th birthday today. "It is dangerous to place so much power into the hands of one person because there can be missteps and even if one leader is wise and just, the next leader ... may not be imbued with the same good judgment," he wrote.
Cambodia has been without a recognised government since the July 26 polls, which the Cambodian People's Party (CPP) of strongman Hun Sen won but not by a large enough majority to rule alone. Talks on power-sharing, initially brokered by the King, have become bogged down with the opposition refusing to accept the result claiming that Mr Hun Sen won through fraud and intimidation. "There is no perfect system of government, but if you allow me to choose the best among them, I would choose liberal democracy," said the king, who has urged parties to accept the election result and concentrate on coalition-building. King Sihanouk said that while during his early rule he was confident that his decisions were motivated by justice, humanity and gaining a good international image for Cambodia, in hindsight he felt giving one person too much power had proved to be dangerous.
