Hun Sen is corrupt ? So am I ! (2005-Mar-29)
Srae Ambel, Koh Kong : Hundreds of logs freshly fell are waiting near Phnom Pork and Phnom Qrop Bai. The Koh Santepheap team dared the devil in taking the picture because number of soldiers were keeping the spot clear of troublemakers. Nearby ten sawing machines were operating noisily. The five sawmill owners are Ta Nguon, Ta Tiem, Ta Than, Chen Hong and a dubbed Mae Khmao. Each pays the Forestry official 100 US$ per month and per machine, and another unknown amount for sawn timber shipped out for sale.

Surya Varman II was a left-hander (2005-Mar-27)
In Khmer tradition it is very important if not capital to observe daily rules regarding one's own body. In order to have Siri Swasdi (dignity and glory) one must wash and clean one's face in the morning, one's torso in the afternoon and one's feet at night before going to bed. In sleeping one should put one's head to the south and the feet to the north so that the sun rises at one's right hand. This latter rule has given their names to the four cardinal points : Tbong (HEAD, south), Cherng (FOOT, north), Kert (BORN, east) and Lech (SINK, west).

The two pictures of king Surya Varman II (1113-1150) carved on Angkor stones clearly showed that he was a left-handed person. That might explain why the main gateway of Angkor Wat temple faces west while all other temples face east : Angkor Wat represented the Mount Meru, the Olympus of the Hindu gods, but was also the tomb of the left-handed king who still wanted the rising sun at his right (left) hand while keeping his head at Tbong (south) and his feet at Cherng (north).

Cambodia : Killing spree (2005-Mar-23)
OPPOSITION URGES AUTHORITIES TO COOL DOWN
SRP Parliamentarians : Cambodian Opposition deplores another execution by the authorities, and urges them to cool down after a reported killing today of sixteen prisoners in a provincial jail, according to Sam Rainsy Party official. “We are condemning the fresh shooting, and calling upon the authorities to cool down for soul-searching,” said Opposition spokesman Ung Bun-Ang. Sixteen inmates of Trapeang Thlong Prison, also known as “T5”, in the province of Kompong Cham next to the border with Vietnam were shot dead today during a breakout at the prison; four others were injured, and one of them was in serious conditions. It seemed overcrowd, heat, and isolation triggered the breakout. It has been reported that there are over 1,000 prisoners being kept in the prison that can hold a maximum of about 500. Approximately fifty inmates reportedly managed to escape, and are still at large.
“It seems the government is no longer in control,” Ung Bun-Ang observed, “this is the second time only in two days the authorities have resorted to group killing after the carnage in Poipet”. On Monday police and military police machine gunned into a crowd of protesters killing five and injured many in Poipet Commune of the province of Banteay Meanchey after serving a court order to settle a land dispute between a village chief and 218 families.

Photos of the "Chinese" road
Laos-Cambodia
(2005-Mar-21)

Before
construction
and in
the rainy season.

At the KR-Viet war
in December 77,
the armored
regiment of Hanoi
stormed the Svay
Rieng road into
Cambodia. Too
fast. The fuel trucks
couldn't follow the
tanks. The KR then
massacred the whole
regiment. In Dec. 78
Hanoi forced Laos
to open the old
road linking Laos &
Cambodia to their
tanks, which wiped
out the KR.

The same road in construction and
in dry season 2005.

It will open Laos to
the sea through
Cambodia.

Once done, the road
is supposed to link
the four countries :
Cambodia,
Laos,
Vietnam,
China.

From this spot on
the motorbikers
are entering Cambodian
North-East highlands
and will show the
photos of
Phnom Penh
Kep
Kampong Som beach
and Pattaya,
Thailand.
